Shoeburyness

Curiously enough, since 1998 there have been six council by-elections in Southend-on-Sea, two in Chalkwell, the others in Shoebury (one in West Shoebury). There has been no date set for the by-election to replace Mike Assenheim, but it will happen soon enough.

Labour last won here in 2001 when all-up elections meant that three were elected. Anne Chalk came third, and therefore was elected, only to then have to resign two months later when it was discovered that she was ineligible. This was our only victory on the current boundaries. Labour won Shoebury ward in 1996 on the old boundaries (when the borough was made up of only 13 wards, as opposed to the current 17).

This ward can be won by Labour, in spite of a recent record that has seen our vote share declining. We have to accept that our campaigning here has not been good enough in recent years, something that we should put right in the upcoming by-election.

  1. I tried to post on your blog but it wouldn't allow .
Therefore I comment here post this where and to whom you like.
Your last paragraph doesn't only exclusively refer to Shoebury surely?

From Chalkwell Ave to Thames drive South side Tumbleweed with Labour's name on it blows along..
    Where is activity here.
18 months ago I went out on my own after asking for leaflets numerous times in the end they were outdated police cut leaflets.
I asked again for any literature but response muted.
Then 10 months ago I said after being asked that I would do some work in Leigh ward..the wheels starting turning then fell off nothing came of it..Ten months on I've had no explanation.
I do However log EVERYTHING an old trait of mine...
How can somebody volunteer but be ignored...
I recall not being ignored in May 2016 when help was needed .
I have lost faith in helping I couldn't give a toss if I'm not people's "cup of tea"
But as I've said from the off certain wards are ignored as no hope..
Fantastic news for Labour voters or members in those wards..
And before the people comment about "doorknocking" some people have other commitments..
A long winded response to your blog Brother lane but a problem aired is a problem shared wouldn't you say?
