Essex County Council elections, number of candidates standing

There are 75 seats up for grabs in the Essex County Council elections in May.

The parties have the following number of candidates:

75 Labour
75 Conservative
72 Liberal Democrat
59 UKIP
54 Green
27 Others

Only two parties have a full slate, an indication of the health of the parties on the ground. Only Labour and the Conservatives can claim to completely cover the County of Essex.

The following table shows the seats won by the major parties in the Essex County Council elections from 1965.

I am not sure what counts as success for Labour, but I would be content with anything that improves on the 2013 result.
