I am now officially a candidate in the May 5th elections,
thus allowing me to defend the seat I won four years ago. Milton ward's voters
will decide whether they wish to retain my services, or prefer the allure of
another.
I consider my ward a marginal, and here is how marginal
it is as compared to other results in 2012 :-

You can see that Milton is the seventh most marginal ward
being defended in Southend-on-Sea this year, which I suppose means my personal
battle is less daunting than others. What is certain is that those with single
figure percentage majorities are somewhat more prone to the vagaries of low
turnout.
Until nominations are closed I cannot be sure that others
have also decided not to defend their seats.
