repertoire is universally better to this blogger. However, The Stranglers were very good in their day, and I joined the Stranglers Information Service in 1978 (or thereabouts).

Stranglers

Last night saw The Stranglers (for the third time), supported by Therapy? (my second time of seeing them). Therapy? were better than reasonable. I saw them two decades ago and last night’s set was largely taken from the material recorded then, so much was familiar.



The Stranglers were very good. Only two of the classic line-up were present (Burnel and Greenfield), but the replacements for Black and Cornwell were very good. They played a lot of familiar tunes, and these were well received. The unfamiliar was also very good. This gig will stay with me for quite some time.

Lady Grey & The Earls

Thursday night, and to new place in `Basildon for me. I am here to see a band, recommended by an old friend I am at The Edge to see T-Bitch. However, first up are Lady Grey & The Earls who have some interesting moments.

T-Bitch remind me of The Cramps, although I also see the influence of The Stripey Zebras and The Get. They describe themselves as trans, queer, Riot Grrrl, punk outfit. I am not so sure that I agree with that description, but they were certainly interesting and I will be checking them out again. They were also nice people - I like nice people.

I wish I could name their songs, but the only title I can recall is Knickers.

Entertainment Exemptions from 6th April 2015

1. Live Music
 
Live amplified music in on-licensed premises authorised and open for the sale of alcohol does not require a licence for audiences up to 500 from 8am until 11:00pm. This includes beer gardens and terraces if they are included in the licensed premises. Live-music related conditions do not apply unless they are re-imposed at a Review. If a beer garden is not shown on the licensed plans then it is likely to nevertheless be a workplace which benefits from a similar exemption. Karaoke is considered live music. Also exempt:-
 
1a) a performance of amplified live music between 08.00 and 23.00 on any day, in a church hall, village hall, community hall, or other similar community premises, that is not licensed by a premises licence to sell alcohol, provided that
 
(a) the audience does not exceed 500, and
 
(b) the organiser gets consent for the performance from person who is responsible for the premises.
 
1b) a performance of amplified live music between 08.00 and 23.00 on any day, at the non-residential premises of (i) a local authority, or (ii) a school, or (iii) a hospital, provided that
 
(a) the audience does not exceed 500, and
 
(b) the organiser gets consent for the performance on the relevant premises from: (i) the local authority concerned, or (ii) the school or (iii) the health care provider for the hospital.
 
Live unamplified music does not need a licence anywhere and with no audience limit between 08:00 to 23:00. . Background live music continues to be exempt.
