Press release on plans to remove to remove NHS funded IVF treatment for infertile couples

Southend Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are planning to remove NHS funded IVF treatment for infertile couples, except in exceptional circumstances, against NICE guidelines which state 3 rounds of treatment should be available and in contrast to other local Commissioning Groups.

Milton Ward Cllr Cheryl Nevin said “This restriction in NHS treatment is purely due to financial constraints, producing a postcode lottery for couples on low incomes and disproportionally affects women”.

Cheryl, who is also Chair of People Scrutiny committee said ”I am concerned that Southend CCG, who are currently in a period of consultation, weren’t mentioned in a recent Guardian article about the number of Trusts reviewing these services. We need to hear more about the impact this will have on patients who are accessing these services currently, or have had past experience”.

“This is just another example where cuts are being made, not based on clinical evidence but due to the Governments poor financial management”.
