Love a misleading Lib Dem bar-chart? Here's one to enjoy

Try as they might, the Liberal Democrats cannot get away from two poor results in Southend last June. In Southend West the Lib Dems lost their deposit (for the first time ever).

Leigh ward is in Southend West, and last June the Liberal Democrats were wiped out as two-party politics hit Southend West for the first time in many a year. Will the Liberal Democrats be able to recover enough to hold on here, in Leigh ward? I doubt it. The Labour candidate is doing very well, and the Tories appear quietly confident.

'Tis the season of elections.

We have the County Council elections on 4th May.  We have the General Election on 8th June. We have the Shoeburyness by-election on 25th May.

To add to this is this week's Leigh Town Council by-election. There is a vacancy in Leigh Road ward, and three candidates are in the contest.

Yesterday I went to the Leigh Community Centre to see what Celebrate Leigh Together was all about. Invited by the Chair of Leigh Town Council, Cllr Carole Mulroney, I had many interesting discussions.

Flux, a new face leads Southend's Liberal Democrats

One of the changes forced by last week's local election results in Southend-on-Sea was the change in Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group. Cllr Carole Mulroney now leads this two-person team.

There are seven Groups in the Southend-on-Sea Council chamber -

Conservative, Labour, Independent Group, Southend Independence Group, Liberal Democrat, ULIP, and Independent.

However, who belongs to which group is in an almost-constant state of flux, so expect changes to groups and numbers in the coming year.
