  1. Essex is not exactly booming under the Conservatives is it? Yet, every constituency rejected the Labour message, have you any ideas why, & what could be done to get the electorate to trust your party to represent anywhere in our county?

  2. Labour is associated with the working class in Essex. The predominant view of themselves in is middle class or aspiring middle class. To vote Labour would appear demeaning and a betrayal of that aspiration. There remains a Gordan Geckko 'Greed is Good' mentality. A perfect, satirical, skit by Stewart Lee illustrates the prevailing Essex mentality. As to what can be done to address the problem - there are very few contingencies for ignorance and dogmatic thinking. Perhaps to continue appealing to younger people, with their enthusiasm and energy, to combat the continuing legacy of Thatcher's Britain. Crudely, over time, the demographic will change with the mortality of Conservative voters and the emergence of
    first-time Labour ones.
