Essex CC results in Rochford District

There are five County Council divisions in Rochford, and here is how the votes were cast yesterday :-

The percentages of vote share for each party -

46.7% Conservative (2013 = 34.9%)

12.5% UKIP (28.2%)

10.7% Labour (13.1%)

10.5% Liberal Democrat (11.3%)

9.2% Green (8.9%)

10.3% Others (3.6%)

Thus, Conservatives up (+11.8%),Greens up(+0.3%). UKIP down (-15.7%), Labour down(-2.4%), Liberal Democrats down (-0.7%)

In summary, the Conservatives gained from UKIP, whilst the other main parties were more or less static in the support they attracted.

Rochford District, in the last twenty years, has been Labour-led. Now, there are no councillors from Labour on the council.

The opposition to Conservatism is split, thus making their task somewhat easier. Also, Conservative supporters appear much more easily persuaded to actually vote.

Rochford South, Labour hoping to make more progress

It should be a close election in Rochford South. This County division is one that Labour has had some success in, and recent results suggest that we are edging ever closer towards victory.

Whatever happens, Rochford South will be served by someone new as Colin Seagers is not defending his seat.
